Website translation for companies in Estonia

Estonian is the mother tongue of 65% of people in Estonia. Does your website speak to them?

Enter your website address — the service finds the pages itself, counts the volume and shows an indicative price for the Estonian version. The translation comes as a file: your developer inserts it, or we do, by agreement.

The estimate is free and takes up to a minute. Sign in with Google or an email link: the estimate is saved in your account.

If a visitor does not understand your website, you will never know

  • An online shop: prices and return terms only in Russian. A buyer who reads Estonian may go where everything is clear, and Keeleamet may issue a precept.
  • A salon or workshop: the price list only in Russian. A customer searching in Estonian calls the one whose price list they understood.
  • An Estonian-language ad leads to a Russian page: the click is paid for, and the person closes the tab.
01

Buyers

Estonian is the mother tongue of 890,104 people in Estonia, or 65.4%. In an international 2020 survey (8,709 buyers, 29 countries), 76% prefer to buy where the information is in their language, and 40% never buy from websites in another language. The survey has no separate figures for Estonia.

An Estonian version lets these people read about you in their own language. Some of the visitors who may now be leaving silently get a chance to become your customers.

02

Google search

Google determines the language of a page from its visible text, not from technical markers in the code or the address.

People who search in Estonian (“juuksur Lasnamäe”) see pages in Estonian. Your Russian page hardly takes part in those results.

03

Choosing between similar offers

In the same international 2020 survey, 66% choose the product with information in their language when products are similar.

When your price and quality are similar to a competitor's, clear text can be the reason to choose you.

What Keeleamet requires

  • According to the guidelines of Keeleamet (the Estonian Language Board), the public website of a company registered in Estonia, if it is in another language, must contain at least brief information about the company and its activities in Estonian. An online shop must also give product information, prices, and ordering and return terms in Estonian.
  • Keeleamet checks websites: 318 websites were checked in 2024. If a breach is found, a precept is issued with up to two months to fix it.
  • This is not legal advice.
  • The free estimate shows what it costs to translate what is required.

How this differs from an agency and subscription machine translation

Translation agency

Who translates
a translator
Price
€10.50–15 per page or more, excluding VAT
Small edit
many agencies charge at least half a page
Where the translation is kept
with you
Terms and names
the translator
Putting it on the website
you

Subscription machine translation

Who translates
machine translation
Price
a monthly subscription, depending on the number of words
Small edit
counts towards the word limit; above it, some services switch the translation off until you change plans, or move you to a higher plan automatically
Where the translation is kept
with some services, on their servers, working while the subscription is active
Terms and names
machine translation; checking and editing is up to you
Putting it on the website
the service does it itself

Tolge

Who translates
a language model, followed by a separate check of the translation against the original: omissions, numbers, terms, grammar
Price
from €2.49 per page, depending on the volume and complexity of the terminology; an indicative price in the free estimate
Small edit
by the volume of changes (minimum 0.25 pages)
Where the translation is kept
with you: a file you download and keep
Terms and names
search for official names, consistent terms for the order, your personal glossary
Putting it on the website
your developer, from the file, or we do, by agreement

To be clear: this is AI translation, not a sworn translation. The most important texts (contracts, terms) are worth having read by someone fluent in Estonian (a colleague, a lawyer).

Agency prices from the public price lists of Aabwell, Filoloog, TM Tõlked, Titania and Libra; subscription details from Weglot's pricing and user reviews (October 2026).

How it works

  1. 01

    Website address

You enter the address. The service finds the public pages and removes repeated parts (menu, footer).

  2. 02

    Price

You see the volume in pages and an indicative price. The exact price also depends on how complex the terminology is, but it will not be higher than the estimate if the estimate covered the whole website.

  3. 03

    Request

You give a deadline and your wishes. We send the exact price and deadline to your account, under “Website translation”, and let you know by email. You pay only once you agree with the price and deadline and we have agreed how the translation gets onto the website.

  4. 04

    Translation as a file

A table “page — original — translation” or a Word file by page. Your developer inserts the text, or we do, by agreement. Google recommends one language per page, so a separate Estonian version of the pages works better than two languages side by side.

Your website changes, and so does the translation

A new offer, price or page: upload the changed text in your account as an ordinary document and get the translation. To keep the same terms in new texts, save important terms in your personal glossary: the service will use them. You pay only for the volume of changes (minimum 0.25 pages), with no monthly fee.

Questions

Our customers understand Russian anyway

Many do: 67% of people in Estonia speak Russian (2021 census). The remaining third do not, and your website is closed to them for now. See the translation price for your website — you can decide later.

It is expensive

Compared with an agency: agencies charge from €10.50 per page excluding VAT; you will see our price in the free estimate and can compare. Overall: the estimate does not commit you to anything, the exact price will not be higher than it if the estimate covered the whole site, and you pay only once you agree. Keeping it up to date: changes are paid only by volume, with no monthly fee.

Free machine translation exists

It is good for understanding a text. On a company website, customers see the mistakes in names and terms. With us, the translation is checked separately against the original, official names are looked up in sources and the order's terms are consistent; the translation is your file and does not depend on a subscription. See the translation price for your website.

We already have a translator

Good. We can prepare a draft translation that your translator can usually check faster than translating from scratch.

Is it required by law?

If the website is only in a foreign language, the Keeleamet guidelines require at least brief information about the company in Estonian. If there is a breach, up to two months are given to fix it; we found no cases of fines specifically for a website. See what the translation of the pages you need would cost.

How long does it take?

It depends on the volume and complexity. The translation itself usually takes minutes, but it can take longer. You give the deadline you want in the request, we send the exact one together with the price; the time for putting it on the website is agreed separately.

Will you put the translation on the website?

We can, by agreement: mention it in your request. Usually we prepare a file, and your developer or you yourself insert it in the website's content management system.

Who is this not for?

If you need a certified translation by a sworn translator, we are not the right choice. If you want the translation to appear on the website by itself, as with subscription services, we do not work that way (see the answer above). If a website has more than 200 pages or loads slowly, the automatic estimate will not cover all its pages: we estimate such a website manually on request.

I need to think it over or check with my manager

The estimate stays in your account, and you can open it later. A company account receives an invoice with the company details after payment. No VAT is added.

Who sees our texts?

The texts are processed for translation and are not published. See the privacy policy for details.

Which languages?

Russian → Estonian and Estonian → Russian. We translate an English website into Estonian on request.
